Rare French 19th Century Enamel Ring Depicting the Muse Terpsichore
A rare french enamel ring depicting Terpsichore one of the nine greek muses. Terpsichore was the goddess of dance and chorus and was often depicted seated playing the lyre.
The rich blue enamel has been hand painted and the band is decorated with foliage all the way around the ring.
The ring dates to the early to mid 19th century and the enamel was restored circa 1910. The current enamel is newer than the body of the ring which explains why the inside shows signs of age whilst the enamel is in perfect condition. The skill required to restore and repaint a ring with such fine detail is astonishing - even the details of Terpsichore's hair and the lyre can be made out.
The ring bears french assay marks to the outside of the band and one edge of the band. The eagle for 18ct gold is present.
