Reserved Late 18th Century Turquoise Ring

A beautiful antique ring set with a turquoise cabochon mounted in 20.5ct gold.

The egg like turquoise cabochon is bezel set with heart shaped prongs which are a surprising and beautiful detail.

The trifurcated shoulders meet a rayed flower and then the plain band to the reverse.

Turquoise is one of the earliest gems ever recorded in the history of jewellery and the gemstone has a long history as a protective talisman. In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century turquoise was linked to the “forget me not” and was used as a symbol of friendship and sentimentality. The use of heart shaped prongs suggests this ring was a gift of affection.

Circa 1780-1800.
