A unique bar brooch with a central portrait panel between seed pearl and gold work borders.
This 19th century brooch is in incredible condition and depicts a lady with an large hairdo with a floral headpiece. The central panel is hand painted but the material is unknown as it is behind glass.
The brooch is richly gilded on top of a gold base. It was hard to test the brooch's gold content without damaging the gilding but we positively acid tested for 15ct gold. The back panel and fastening pin were not tested. The back panel (behind portrait) is likely 9ct and the pin is possibly a non precious metal.
The piece is typically French in style and estimated to be Victorian in age.
