A beautiful Essex crystal dog brooch.
The wonderful silver setting contains a beautiful Essex crystal intaglio.
Estimated to be Victorian in age.
34mm in diameter.
The dog is believed to be a Welsh Terrier.
The brooch has ornate silver work surrounding the crystal.
Essex crystals are created by reverse carving an image into a crystal and then finely painting the crystal. The crystal is then backed to create a 3D effect.
Condition:
Minor surface scratch on one side of the crystal (hard to capture in a photograph - but very minor). Painting is in nice condition - please see pictures. I believe the white on the dog is highlighting and not paint loss.
The pin at the back looks like a replacement and although it will hold secure - the pin has a very slight wobble in the hinge. Solder marks on the silver. Crystal is secure in mount but can be wobbled if pushed firmly from the top (does not rattle).
