Rare Antique Connemara Marble Compass with Silver Chain


A lovely antique Connemara marble compass on a sterling silver chain. 

Connemara marble is a famous hard stone mined in Ireland. From Wikipedia:

"The famous "Connemara Green marble" is found outcropping along a line between Streamstown and Lissoughter. It was a trade treasure used by the inhabitants of the prehistoric time. It continues to be of great value today. It is available in large dimensional slabs suitable for buildings as well as for smaller pieces of jewellery."

The working compass dates to circa 1900. The chain is modern.

Diameter of compass: 21mm.

Chain is 49cm in length end to end. 

Condition: Nice condition. The chain is hallmarked for sterling silver. The face of the compass is in nice condition. Light scratches across the surface of the piece. Could do with a clean to outer surfaces.
