A beautiful Georgian brooch from Portugal circa 1790.
These medallions are for the Order of Christ and similar examples can be found in museum collections.
Silver set construction. The outer border is set with ‘black dot’ pastes and the inner cross is set with flat cut garnets and rose cut diamonds.

Condition: Brooch fitting is later replacement. Pastes are nice and clean, one is possibly a replacement. Four of the garnets are chipped/cracked but are secure in the settings. Two of the tiny rose cut diamonds are missing.
