15ct Gold Victorian Yellow Enamel Witches Heart Brooch

£525.00 GBP

An interesting late Victorian “witches heart” or Luckenbooth brooch.

Circa 1900.

The heart motif with a curved point was originally worn as a symbol to protect against evil spirits and overtime became a love token - a gift between two people to symbolise that they were bewitched with each other.

The brooch is set with two pearls and three rose cut diamonds in silver collets on a 15ct gold body.

The body of the brooch is decorated with yellow and white Guilloché enamel.

2.3cm in length and 1.9cm wide.

Tests as 15ct yellow gold. No hallmarks present.

Nice clean condition. Some tarnishing to metal. The clasp lock looks like it has been replaced at some point. Two white enamel dots are smaller than the rest.
